This was our first day in Independence, Missouri and the area surrounding it. We stayed in a beautiful RV park adjacent to the Worlds of Fun theme park. It was one of the nicest places to stay of the trip.
We spent much of the day right in Independence. At the LDS visitor's center, the younger girls had a fantastic playing "pioneer" house in the kids area. The play area had a little log cabin and an old west wagon. The Church of Christ temple has a museum in the basement that was well worth our time. We saw many original artifacts of the early saints, such as the Liberty Jail door, an original Book of Mormon, etc.
Milly's pointing at bullet holes in this wall.
We are sitting in the old city courthouse. This was the first of "old buildings" we saw on the trip, and by the end the kids started asking things like, "Another log cabin? We already heard how to turn flax into linen at the last 12 cabins!" The older members of the family loved all the old buildings and cabins.
We found one of the houses that Rob (Laurel's dad) grew up in. Laurel's on the phone with Rob, who is currently on a mission in the Philippines.
Yep, it's raining again. Multi-day rain in the Midwest can be a little longer and stronger at times than a typical thunderstorm in Utah.
